De Foundation VR Private Stichting werd notarieel opgericht eind 2011. De Studio voor verblijf en de grafische ateliers bevinden zich in een Beschermd Monument en is gelegen in een historisch en in zijn geheel beschermde residentiële wijk uit eind 19de eeuw.

Door nationaal en internationaal enthousiaste grafiekliefhebbers samen te brengen, willen wij een duurzaam draagvlak creëren, door een forum te bieden om een waardevol grafisch oeuvre te behoeden tegen versnippering, en bovendien artistieke perspectieven voor talentrijke grafici te openen.

De Foundation Veerle Rooms Private Stichting heeft tijdens deze periode bestaansrecht verworven met een steeds groeiend aantal leden. Deze hebben jaarlijks recht op een Premieplaat van diverse gerenommeerde grafische kunstenaars uit binnen- en buitenland.

Er is een actieve Publiekswerking met tentoonstellingen, atelierbezoeken, workshops en lezingen over de diverse grafische technieken. Zowel aan de klassieke verworvenheden als aan de meest-geavanceerde digitale technieken, mixed-media, bewegende grafische beelden wordt ruime aandacht besteed.

Dit maakt dat de Foundation Veerle Rooms een vaste plaats heeft verworven op de hedendaagse kunstenscène.

Een bijzondere troef zijn de mogelijkheden voor ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE, met mogelijkheden tot gebruik van de grafische ateliers. Heel wat bekende nationale en internationaal vermaarde grafici hebben gewerkt in de werkplaatsen en verbleven in de praktische ruim voorziene Studio met mogelijkheden voor eigen catering.

Daarbij kunnen zij ook ten volle genieten van hetgeen een kunststad als Antwerpen te bieden heeft. De stad van Rubens, Jordaens maar ook met het historische Museum Plantin-Moretus, Werelderfgoed en bakermat van de boek- en prentdrukkunst is in de onmiddellijke nabijheid.

Met bovendien het befaamd Museum voor Hedendaagse Kunst (M HKA) en talrijke galeries is Antwerpen een internationaal cultureel trefpunt.

The Veerle Rooms Foundation was notarially registered at the end of 2011. Its studio for residence and the graphic workshop are located in a historic building, situated in a fully protected heritage site with residential buildings dating back to the 19th century.

By bringing together avid enthusiasts of printmaking, both nationally as well as internationally, the Foundation VR aims to create a sustainable artistic platform. Our goal is the creation of a forum in order to prevent the fragmentation of a valuable graphic oeuvre whilst providing talented printmakers with artistic perspectives.

With its ever growing membership, the Foundation Veerle Rooms has won its spurs.

These members are entitled to an annual premium plate by a renowned national or international printmaker.

The Foundation VR organises exhibitions, studio visits, workshops and lectures about various types of printmaking. We pay close attention to traditional techniques, alongside more advanced digital techniques, mixed media and more. This wide scope of activities earned the Foundation VR a firm reputation within the art scene.

Another asset is the Artist in Residence concept. The Foundation VR offers artists a temporary home and workspace with printmaking studio. Over the years, various renowned artists, both national and international, have made use of these unique facilities. It’s a studio whit possibiiities of their own catering.

Finally, its central location offers residents easy access to the many museums and galleries the city Antwerp is famous for. Besides the Rubens museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art (M HKA), the many art galleries, there is the Plantin-Moretus Museum, a must see museum for printmakers. The premises of the Plantin and Moretus family date back to the 16th century. Now a museum, recognized as a Unesco World Heritage site, it houses the impressive historic printing collection and the printing office of the family.

Veerle Rooms studeerde Beeldende en Grafische Kunsten aan het Nationaal Hoger Instituut te Antwerpen. Gedurende 35 jaar was zij docente in het Hoger Kunstonderwijs ‘Karel de Grote Hogeschool’ en manifesteerde zich als een van de belangrijkste hedendaagse kunstenaars in haar discipline. Met voortdurend onderzoek en experiment blijft zij naar vernieuwing streven, zowel technisch, compositorisch als inhoudelijk. Zij behoudt de vertrouwde klassieke technieken als basis, maar integreert deze met de steeds evoluerende digitale mogelijkheden in haar werk. Haar CV vermeldt tal van nationale en internationale Eerste Prijzen. Zij gaf gastcolleges aan befaamde buitenlandse universiteiten, zie hiervoor haar website. Met opgemerkte tentoonstellingen en de realisatie van een reeks kostbare portfolio's in samenwerking met collega-kunstenaars en gelijkgezinde auteurs bracht zij een interactie over de grenzen heen tot stand.

Voorbeelden hiervan zijn o.a. De Rebus, E-POS I en II met Zuid-Afrika, Rusland, Zwitserland en recent nog Our Soldiers met Nieuw-Zeeland. De interesse voor prehistorische culturen blijven hoogtepunten in haar werk. Nieuwe projecten: Mythen & Tekens / Myths & Marks en AARDE voor het project Emoties – Emotions, geïnspireerd door de oudste prehistorische tekeningen in de grot Chauvet (Ardèche in Zuid-Frankrijk), kregen een nieuwe beeldtaal.

Met daarbij de thema’s VUUR, WATER en LUCHT ontstonden deze DE VIER ELEMENTEN. Dit betekent een ware stijlbreuk met verregaande toepassingen van de hedendaagse grafische mogelijkheden.

This artist has manifested herself as one of the most important contemporary printmaking artists. She has achieved exceptional fame on a national as well as an international level, based on continuous research and applying all that can be attained by a visual artist in this discipline. This also determines the value of her work’s content. The idea is supported by it and results in a whole range of compositional innovations.

In all of her work and artistic activities she pays a great deal of attention to continuous experimenting with classic achievements in order to mix them with the most recent digital techniques, f.i. in various workshops and exhibitions, national and international. For this she keeps pace with the creative development of new generations of printmaking artists.

Veerle Rooms has always started off from the knowledge that printmaking art forms are a part of the historical framework in which the ‘announcement’ as ‘writing’ has evolved since primeval ages to drawing and text. In the end this application often became a ‘work of art’ in a space. Shape, shade of colour and a personal approach of the things that keep fascinating her, remain the major features of her work.

This she has demonstrated by numerous noticed exhibitions in Belgium and abroad, but also by realizing a series of precious portfolio’s. The co-operation with fellow artists and like-minded writers has led to a number of large-scale international projects, that were also extended into original monumental work.

Examples are the E-POS projects in cooperation with South Africa and OUR SOLDIERS with countries in Oceania. This effect can be seen in her most recent oeuvre THE FOUR ELEMENTS.
